You’ve Got This! Now Be Flexible. Stay Determined

These are unusual times, so it’s important to be easy on yourself while conducting your job search. Job searching can be stressful under normal circumstances. You’ll need to stay flexible and be determined if you hope to find a job.

Here’s how to break this down:

Flexibility is Key

You may have had your sights set on getting a certain title in your next role or working at a certain company. Don’t lose sight of your goals (after all, I did say to write them down). Just be open and flexible in how you achieve them. Are there similar companies you might consider working at? A role that might not be your “dream job” but a great transitional role? Apply! You never know what will happen.

Persit, Persit, Persit

It can be easy to get discouraged right now, especially if a job search is taking longer than usual. This is why determination and persistence are key. You might not get a new job as quickly as you hoped for, but when you do, you’ll be glad you didn’t give up.

Care for Yourself

With everything going on in the world, a job search could be extra stressful. It doesn’t have to be. Create a schedule for yourself so you can feel in control of your job search, even when everything else may seem out-of-control.

When you create the schedule, set aside not just time you’ll work on your job search, but also some self-care time. It could be 10-minutes of stretching, a 20-minute meditation, even just a small 5-minute herbal tea break. Whatever brings you peace, joy, and fits into your schedule.

By breaking down the steps to take during your job search, you’ll lessen the chances of being overwhelmed. Small steps each and every day will lead to progress.

Finally, no matter how your job search is going, remember to believe in yourself. It may seem cliche, but confidence is key. When you are confident in your abilities, people will take note. Before you know it, you’ll be landing a job offer.
