Why have a strategy for anything? Why not just have goals? Here’s why:
- A goal is an outcome
- A strategy is an approach you take to achieve a goal
A strategy is how you get from wherever you are to wherever you want to go. You can try to get from point A to point B without directions—you will probably get there eventually—but why would you take the risk of getting lost along the way when you could have directions? Directions save you time and energy. To best meet your goals, get directions: implement a strategy.
But how? You can’t just type your goals into Waze and have the app tell you the fastest most direct route. It doesn’t work like that (imagine if it did?!?!). Being strategic is a mindset. It is a way of thinking and acting with intention. It is something that you can learn, but that takes time to master because there is no one size fits all strategy or set of guidelines you can follow that will work perfectly every time. However, developing a more strategic mindset has its long-term advantages. It will help you create actions plans that work and reach your goals faster and with more ease. Once you get comfortable with strategizing, you can apply it to all areas of your life.
Strategy Girl is all about—you guessed it—personal strategy development. Our contributors will be dropping knowledge and inspiration on creating strategies, goal setting, productivity, planning, and organization and how it can all be applied to three areas of life that are supremely important: education, career, and wellness.
